April is well underway and we’re now about to get our second Spotlight Hour of the month in Pokemon GO, this time featuring Shellder, but can it be shiny?

The Bivalve Pokemon is the second Pokemon from the original Blue and Red games to feature in the Pokemon GO Spotlight in April, following Exeggcute who appeared last week.

The Kanto Pokemon follow on from a trio of Alolan starters who ended March, with Litten, Popplio and Rowlet each having their turn in the Spotlight Hour.

But, back to the week at hand, let’s take a look at whether Shellder is Shiny in the Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour, plus the bonuses that will be available.

SHELLDER SPOTLIGHT HOUR DATE, START TIME AND BONUSES

The Shellder Spotlight Hour, as they always do, takes place on a Tuesday. This time out, it’s on Tuesday, April 12, 2023.

The event will run for an hour, between 6 pm and 7 pm in your local time zone.

This week’s Spotlight Hour, like last week’s, features the very disappointing double Candy bonus when you catch a Pokemon. Considering Shellder has been in the game since the beginning, and Cloyster isn’t very meta-relevant, Pokemon GO players won’t be clamouring for Shellder Candy.

CAN SHELLDER BE SHINY IN THE POKEMON GO APRIL 2023 SPOTLIGHT HOUR?

Thankfully, despite the disappointing bonus, it’s not all bad news as Shellder can be shiny during the April 2023 Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour.

Shellder and its evolution Cloyster have had their shiny forms in Pokemon GO for a while now, with both releasing in June 2018 as part of the game’s Water Festival event. They released alongside shiny Kyogre.

Unfortunately, however, while it’s great news that Shellder can be shiny during the Spotlight Hour, it won’t be easy to nab one.

Unlike Pokemon GO Community Days, where a Pokemon’s shiny odds are boosted to one in 25, the same can’t be said for Spotlight Hours. That means you’ll have a roughly one in 500 chance of finding a shiny Shellder.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING OUT FOR?

If you are on the hunt for a shiny Shellder, it’ll be easy for you to recognise it.

Rather than its usual bluey purple color, a shiny Shellder is a bright orange color.
