A plumber came across a retro small fortune while rummaging through their cluttered attic. What they found was an old and historic Nintendo 64 controller that could sell for a whopping £1,000.
Nintendo remains one of the most prolific companies in the video games industry. They’re still famous for iconic franchises like Mario and Zelda, but they’re also iconic for their consoles. The Nintendo Wii remains one of the best consoles of all time, and the Nintendo Switch is home to some of the best-ever games like Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. These items will one day become historic and sell for thousands as we continue to sprint to an all-digital future, but right now one lucky plumber has the opportunity of selling an antique controller for up to £1,000.
Plumber finds old Nintendo controller in attic
Plumber Liam Cloudsdale was left in shock after finding his old Nintendo 64 Foxdata controller in his attic.
The N64 gamepad was gifted to him on his 14th birthday back in 1998. Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Cloudsale stated:
“One of my friends spotted that a Foxdata pad had sold for a decent amount of money and remembered I had one. He asked me about it so I unpackaged my old pad from a box in the loft where it had been carefully stored away.
“I then contacted Hansons as I found an article about a previous gaming sale they had held. I was very surprised by how much it was potentially worth. I’m happy to pass it on to a proper retro collector.”
Speaking about the rarity of the Nintendo 64 Foxdata controller, the head of Hansons’ Toys and Video Games Auction, David Wilson-Turner, said: “It’s believed Foxdata produced around 800 of these customised controllers across the four designs, meaning there could be less than 200 examples of Liam’s controller in the world”.
It’s reported that this Nintendo 64 Foxdata Silver Leopard customized controller could sell for £1,000 when it goes up for auction at Hansons Auctioneers on October 17th. If you think that’s a lot of money, some people are trying to sell their Foxdata controller for nearly £2,000 on eBay.
