Major change to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set to split opinion among fans

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 promises to be the embodiment of a sequel that is bigger and better. However, while lovers of the friendly neighborhood superhero are excited to return to the streets of New York, opinion is split amongst fans over the introduction of fall damage Insomniac’s web-slinging.

Insomniac’s first stab at Spider-Man was one of the best exclusives on the PlayStation 4, so it’s only natural that expectations for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are astronomical. Fortunately, it appears as though gamers are about to receive a huge upgrade equivalent to Batman Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. There are more villains, the story is grander, New York is bigger and more dynamic, and there’s also the addition of the symbiote suit. But, while all of this is great, not every fan agrees with a major change to the web-slinging.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 web-slinging change

The big web-slinging change in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the introduction of fall damage.

If you recall in Marvel’s Spider-Man, there is no fall damage at all. But, in the upcoming sequel, YouTuber Caboose claims that there is now fall damage in the game.

Providing an overview of his hands-on impressions with the PlayStation exclusive sequel, Caboose said he was messing around with the settings and found the option to ‘toggle fall damage on or off’. This means it will be completely optional for players who want a more “realistic” or “safer” approach to their gaming.

Caboose notes that he didn’t test out the fall damage as he was more enamored with simply webslinging around the city and using the web wings. However, although untested, its mere inclusion has already split the fanbase with some welcoming fall damage while others are already convinced to turn it off.

Fans react to fall damage

Lots of fans welcome the idea of optional fall damage in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Discussing the addition on Reddit, webslingers harkened back to the good old days of Spider-Man 2 on the PS2. Some fans even want the ‘realism’ of fall damage to go further by adding damage for slamming into walls when web-slinging out of control.

While many love the idea of fall damage, not everyone is convinced. Some feel it’s unrealistic because Spider-Man doesn’t suffer fall damage when landing on his feet. Apparently, he can fall over 3,000 feet high and not suffer any pain at all but then again, he is a superhero.

While the fanbase is split on whether they will use it or not, everyone is glad that it’s at least optional with some considering it the non-canon approach.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20th for PlayStation. It is exclusive to current-gen, meaning it is only PS5 and not coming to PS4. It could come to PC which is similar to the first game, but this won’t happen until sometime after post-launch.
