CD Projekt RED’s community manager has shared the release time for when fans can download the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update. The developer has also provided a warning to PC players ahead of Phantom Liberty’s launch, and we’ve compiled early patch notes so you know what new features to expect.
It’s important to note that Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 is not the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion. Update 2.0 is entirely free for everyone who already owns the base game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, meanwhile, Phantom Liberty is a paid expansion that stars Hollywood juggernaut, Idris Elba. We obviously can’t wait for the Phantom Liberty expansion to see Idris Elba across Keanu Reeves in the world of video games, but update 2.0 comes out first.
Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update release date
The release date for the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update is September 21st.
It is coming to PlayStation, PC, and Xbox. Unfortunately, if you purchased the CD Projekt RED RPG on PS4 or Xbox One, you’re out of luck because update 2.0 is exclusive to current-gen consoles meaning PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
As mentioned earlier, this update is entirely free for everyone who already owns the game on current-gen consoles and PCs. Phantom Liberty releases on September 26th, and it is not free.
The Phantom Liberty expansion costs £24.99 per the PSN store. Its review embargo is already over, and it has a fantastic 88 aggregate on Metacritic for PS5.
What time does the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update come out?
The release time for the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update is during the CD Projekt RED livestream at 07:00 PDT, 10:00 EST, and 15:00 BST on September 21st.
This comes courtesy of CD Projekt RED community manager lilayaah on Twitter. She says the update will be available to download ‘close to the end of the stream’.
The most recent REDStream lasted just over one hour long, so expect update 2.0 to be ready to download at 08:00 PDT, 11:00 EST, and 16:00 BST.
You can watch the livestream on the official CDProjektRED Twitch account.
Patch notes and download warning for PC players
Before downloading Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, PC players must be aware that the game’s new update only supports SSDs.
In addition, it’s recommended you delete any mods before downloading update 2.0. This is because ‘they might cause more issues than usual’ because of the ‘sheer amount of changes’ between 2.0 and the original experience.
You can see the new minimum and recommended system requirements in the tweet below:
Lastly, below are some early patch notes for what new features are coming out with the update:
- New wanted system with police car chases
- Ability to fully re-customize your character’s appearance including scars and tattoos
- Redesigned cyberware
- New skill tree
- New perks and abilities
- Increased level cap
- New vehicles
- Mounted weaponry
- Dynamic events
- A new radio station hosted by Sasha Grey
- New UI improvements
In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, a fan has released a must-watch masterpiece movie that you can easily binge in one sitting. Starfield fans are also frustrated about Bethesda’s ‘pathetic’ sex appeal compared to CD Projekt RED and other RPGs.
