Hideo Kojima is working on an Xbox exclusive that is rumored to be a horror game. News about the project has been minimal at best, but Phil Spencer has provided an update.
It’s an exciting time for Microsoft fans loyal to the Xbox. The upcoming Xbox Game Pass October 2023 additions include more day-one releases from mega franchises, and the exclusives are beginning to pile up with Starfield followed by Forza Motorsport. While next-gen exclusives are finally starting to come out for Xbox, the one we’re most excited about is the mysterious Hideo Kojima project that we hope is a horror game.
What is the Hideo Kojima Xbox exclusive?
The Hideo Kojima Xbox exclusive is a mysterious project announced all the way back in June 2022.
All we officially know so far comes from an Xbox tweet that said “Xbox Game Studios & Kojima Productions are partnering to create a video game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced before, leveraging the cloud”.
While the sheer inclusion of Hideo Kojima’s name is enough to make any fan squeal with excitement, what’s even more enticing is the alleged leaks.
Reliable leaker Tom Henderson from Try Hard Guides reported that Kojima’s Xbox exclusive is “almost certainly Overdose”. The game allegedly stars Margaret Qualley from Death Stranding, and it might also be an episodic horror game that was canceled by Google Stadia. However, this isn’t official as of writing.
Phil Spencer provides an update
Phil Spencer has provided a short update on what is happening with the Hideo Kojima exclusive for Xbox.
In an interview with Japanese outlet Game Watch, Phil Spencer was asked about Hideo Kojima’s Xbox project. Phil Spencer said he is “going to visit the studio next week” and is looking forward to meeting Kojima and checking on the project’s progress.
Spencer also said “The project is going well” but don’t expect it to be shown off anytime soon. This is because Kojima is an innovative game creator who is trying new things in this project so Kojima needs time to fully realize his vision.
Although not mentioned by Phil Spencer, Kojima is also very busy working on Death Stranding 2. This is a PlayStation console exclusive starring Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoxu with no release window at present.
