Leaks for Far Cry 7 have started to appear online. Although it is nothing more than unconfirmed details, fans are split over the prospect of a similar story along with a potentially ‘annoying’ gameplay mechanic.
The Far Cry series is arguably Ubisoft’s biggest franchise besides Assassin’s Creed. Fans don’t need to wait too much longer for the return of Assassin’s Creed with Mirage this October, meanwhile, Far Cry isn’t returning until Fall 2025 according to rumors. While fans are desperate for innovation because of how tiring the Ubisoft open-world formula has become, there is division over a new mechanic that would drastically change the story.
Far Cry 7 leaks
Insider Gaming has leaked story details for Far Cry 7.
According to reliable leaker Tom Henderson, the seventh installment’s narrative will be non-linear. It will allegedly focus on the player needing to rescue their kidnapped family from a conspiracy cult named ‘Sons of Truth’.
This isn’t an unfamiliar concept as Far Cry 3 starred Jason rescuing his friends on Rook Island. However, although a familiar tale, Far Cry 7 will stand out by reportedly featuring an in-game timer.
The in-game timer stands at 72 hours, or 24 hours in real-time. You will be able to pause the timer by entering safe houses, and you will be able to rescue family members in a free order or to fail rescue them at all.
Another new mechanic, reportedly, is an interrogation system. You will need to interrogate enemies for details about how to find and rescue your family, but these enemies will react unpredictably rather than always giving away the information you need.
Fans react to Far Cry 7 leaks
Far Cry 7 fans are split over the recent leaks.
Speaking about the rumored leaks over on Reddit, some gamers are concerned about the in-game timer because of how frustrating it was in Dead Rising 2 and Final Fantasy XIII-3. Others are unsure about how it will work in an open-world game with dozens of side quests and collectibles.
Away from the in-game timer, some feel bored over the ‘kidnapped family’ trope. Then, there are fans who simply want an open-world Far Cry game with dinosaurs.
In opposition to the wariness, there are fans very excited simply because of innovation. The series has been mostly the same formula since Far Cry 3, so it would be great to see something so drastically new.
However, as of writing, this is still nothing more than leaks. Ubisoft has not confirmed anything about Far Cry 7, and don’t expect details anytime soon as the publisher’s release slate is jam packed with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar, and Star Wars Outlaws.
No platforms are mentioned in the leak, but it will likely come to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
