It’s that time of the month again where we usher in a brand new tour in Mario Kart Tour, and this one is an event that hasn’t appeared before!

The Mario Kart Tour – Sydney Tour aims to capture the heart and spirit of Australia’s most popular city, so popular in fact that many often think it’s the capital (poor Canberra).

Along with this newest tour comes a brand new circuit Sydney Sprint, along with 3 variations. The circuit feels akin to most other city styled tracks that have been released for the game such as Tokyo Blur, only this one is particularly wide.

The highlight of Sydney Sprint has to be the section where you cross the bridge and Yoshi’s throw items from a passing train onto the circuit!

The first pipe to pull in this tour contains a new character variation, Baby Mario (Koala), as well as a matching Jet Cruiser kart (which is actually a yacht!) and Surf Master glider. Upon first glance, I can’t help but be rather disappointed by the choices made on these.

Baby Mario’s standard character is a Boomerang Flower character which has gained somewhat of a cult following in the game for its ability to hoover up coins when thrown, landing some huge scores for those that use it.

Seeing as this is the Sydney Tour, home of the Boomerang, of course you would expect this new Baby Mario (Koala) alt to have the Boomerang Flower, right?

Wrong! The new alt uses the Heart item, dare I say the most useless item in the current meta. I really can’t follow Nintendo’s thinking with this one.

So with this information in mind, my verdict for whether you should pull Sydney Pipe 1 to try to get the new characters, is an honest no.

If you’re anything like myself, you probably spent all of your rubies on the Gold Pipe from the previous tour anyway, which as a contrast was the best single pipe that I have seen appear in this game.

I suspect Sydney Pipe 2 will be a revival of older characters such as Mario (Sunshine) or Mario/Rosalina (Swimwear), which may be more useful to most players.

A final note for this initial tour overview, be prepared to hop back into Multiplayer this tour, as there are a brand new set of Kart Pro challenges to take on, requiring ‘3 Wins in Kart Pro’ to complete as the hardest node.

May the RNG be with you, and may the spiny shells stay away! Best of luck with the Mario Kart Tour Sydney Tour.
