Fortnite is always coming out with new skins to buy in endless crossovers with famous juggernauts such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and many more. Unfortunately, many members of the community have made unwanted purchases, and you may be able to claim a refund from the FTC for items bought between 2017 and 2022.
It’s hard to imagine a world where Fortnite doesn’t exist, but it only came out in 2017. Since its birth, it remains the most popular free-to-play battle royale in what is now an oversaturated genre in the video games industry. Although the base experience itself is solid, the key to Fortnite’s success is undoubtedly the constant updates and staggering amount of collaborations. These updates and crossovers always bring new items to buy, and you may be able to get refunds for skins and other items you didn’t intentionally purchase.
Can you apply for a Fortnite refund?
You can only apply for a refund of Fortnite items from the FTC if you live in the United States and are at least 18 years old.
If you are not 18, then you must have your parents or guardian apply on your behalf. Before trying to get a refund, you must meet the following requirements:
- You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022
- Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018
- Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges
All of the above requirements come courtesy of the FTC.
How to file a claim for refund
Visit the FTC’s file a claim webpage to attempt to get your Fortnite refunds.
Before getting started, you will need your Epic Account ID or a claim number. Your Epic Account ID can be found by following the below steps in Fortnite:
- Open Fortnite
- From the lobby, open the main menu in the top left corner.
- Select SETTINGS after clicking on the gear icon.
- Select the ACCOUNT AND PRIVACY tab.
- Hover on EPIC ACCOUNT ID. Your Epic account ID will appear on the right.
Once you have your Epic ID, you can start your refund claim. You must finish the application before January 17th, 2024.
There’s no specific amount for how much you can or will be owed as each individual case depends on several factors. Your claim may also not be accepted so an application doesn’t guarantee a refund.
Fortnite is available on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The game is currently situated in the early stages of Chapter 4 Season 4.
