Who wouldn’t want to see Minecraft Steve in Smash Bros Ultimate?

Two of the most hyped potential characters that could be added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate is that of Banjo-Kazooie and Steve from Minecraft.

While Banjo-Kazooie is more of a 90s kid addition, having Steve from Minecraft would be one of the best crossovers in years. Though this rumour has been circulating for several weeks now, thanks to noted Smash Bros leaker ‘Virginben’, many still don’t believe it could happen.

Obviously, the most significant sticking point for many is why Microsoft would allow two of their intellectual properties to be used by Nintendo? Especially when Nintendo are known for being incredibly strict when it comes to licensing any of their games; even more so with bitter rivals Microsoft.

However, we have already seen the likes of Solid Snake, and more impressively, Sonic added to the roster despite coming from other rivals.

Thankfully, one GameFAQs user has listed a selection of compelling arguments for why we might just see Steve and Banjo-Kazooie in Smash Bros Ultimate. User Morgan3DS64 made seven incredible statements to argue why it could still happen.

The Seven Arguments:

  • “They belong to Microsoft and Microsoft will never let Nintendo use one of their characters”. The head of Microsoft, Phil Spencer basically says he’s cool with them being in Smash.
  • “It would be Master Chief instead”. Master Chief doesn’t even have any history whatsoever with Nintendo. Every Halo game has only been on an Xbox, whereas Banjo started out on a Nintendo, and has had four. Plus, the games that were on Nintendo consoles, two being N64, two being handhelds.
  • “Nintendo’s rivalry with Microsoft”. Nintendo has been working with Microsoft, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Sega, and Namco Bandai. I’m starting to think you don’t want these companies getting along.
  • “They aren’t relevant”. Simon Belmont and King K. Rool weren’t relevant, and they got in.
  • “They’re third-party”.  Simon is third-party. Besides the whole “can’t be more than one or two third-party characters” rule has basically been thrown out the window.
  • “They’re not iconic enough”. Okay… this one I haven’t seen, but I guarantee you there are people that think it.
  • “It would cost Nintendo money to bring in a character from a rival company”: Again they’re not rivals anymore, and one third party character doesn’t mean Nintendo is doomed to go bankrupt. And besides, they’ll most likely get double of what on the game and the characters they put in it after it releases.

So, could it happen? Well, we really hope so, because we would love to see what Steve and Banjo-Kazooie could do. Hopefully, Nintendo will surprise us all and give us even more cool characters to enjoy.
