The Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer has revealed that John Marston is back! Many of us had thought that the main theme of Red Dead Redemption 2 would be about Martson Jr, and his attempt to enact revenge for his father’s killing at the end of the first game. What we knew before viewing this third trailer was that we will be taking control of Arthur Morgan, a member of Dutch van der Linde’s gang.
However, the newest trailer has revealed we’ll be getting just about everything we could want from the next Red Dead Redemption game. Set 12 years before the events of the first game, in 1899, we’re thrown right into a changing world, as the wild west started to modernise. We won’t be seeing any cars, but expect lots of pesky iron horses, or trains as we call them.
Who is in the trailer?
Well, as we mentioned earlier, John Marston is spotted running with the violent group of bank robbers, but it appears he was actually captured by the Van der Linde gang and forced into working with them.
At one point in the trailer, we see Martson with his trademark scars –which look freshly cut – as he has a knife to his throat.
Obviously, there is the rest of the gang, with Dutch van der Linde looking – incredibly – a little unhinged. Again from the original Red Dead Redemption, Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella make an appearance. Finally, there is Edgar Ross who looks like he is one of the right-hand men of a new antagonist.
What do we need to know?
The trailers give the impression there will be a strong focus on hand-to-hand combat, with Arthur Morgan roughing up more than one foe in the trailer. As we saw in a previous trailer, Morgan works as a debt collector, which could be a good way to make an income at the start of the game. This would also account for the less lethal hand-to-hand combat we witness throughout, as you don’t want to be shooting your collections now, do you?
Finally, there appears to be a fight club – something we have seen in many Rockstar games. Again, perhaps this is an excellent way to make a few extra bucks.
Unfortunately, there was no real sign of any multiplayer in this trailer; we have been teased with the possibility of not only multiplayer but a potential Battle Royale, something juicy for us to sink our teeth into.
Well! There is a banana spotted in one of the scenes. This might seem relatively benign to be talking about but hear me out; bananas weren’t starting to be sold on a large scale in America until 1898, a year before this game is set. We could find that bananas turn out to be an excellent source of income, selling for quite a lot of money…
Just a theory.
