At the start of February, r/smashbros users were able to rank characters by tier in a form. This gives an interesting outlook on how average players currently see the Smash Bros Ultimate character tiers. Here’s the tier list for February 2019.

Top Tier: Peach (Daisy), Pichu, Lucina, Inkling, Pikachu
High Tier +: Wolf, Olimar, Ike, Palutena, Fox
High Tier: Marth, Wario, Chrom, Snake, Pokémon Trainer, Cloud, Roy, Link, Yoshi, Young Link, R.O.B.
High Tier -: Donkey Kong, Ness
Mid Tier +: Shulk, Mega Man, Simon (Richter), Mewtwo, Greninja, Falco, Luigi, Mario, Lucario, Bowser, Sonic, Zero Suit Samus, Meta Knight, Lucas, Mii Swordfighter, Toon Link

Many of the results echo the sentiments of pro players. Peach, Daisy, Pichu, Lucina, Inkling, Pikachu, Wolf, Olimar, Ike, Palutena, and Fox are top 10 mainstays. Meanwhile, characters like Wario, Snake, Pokémon Trainer, Ness, and Donkey Kong have shown a lot of potential.
Easiest Characters in Smash Bros Ultimate
Another recent Reddit poll by u/ritmica addresses the easiest characters to play in Smash Bros Ultimate. This is based on the difficulty level of mastering each character as opposed to how good they are at their highest potential.
So far, it seems as though some of the easiest characters in Smash Ultimate are some of the best. Reddit users consider characters like Cloud and Ike easy to play as well as Top Tier characters.
Other Top Tier characters, such as Peach, Daisy, and Olimar, are difficult to master but very rewarding to learn.
