New Smash Ultimate news has been revealed in a Famitsu interview with the creator himself, Masahiro Sakurai. Sakurai has revealed a rough estimate for the Piranha Plant release date. He’s also given more details on online play and Amiibo releases.
Smash Ultimate News – Piranha Plant Release Date by Feb
The Famitsu interview was originally posted in Japanese by Ryokutya2089.
When asked about the release date of Piranha Plant, Sakurai said it will be available within 2 months of the Smash Bros Ultimate launch.
Delivery is 1-2 months after release.
This fits in line with everything else revealed about the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC. Most likely, Piranha Plant will be available by February 2019. With 5 more DLC packs to come by February 2020, they will likely be released every 2 months or so.
The Piranha Plant DLC will be available for free to everyone who buys Super Smash Bros Ultimate before the end of January 31st, 2019. Here’s more on how to get Piranha Plant free.
Smash Ultimate News – How Will Online Play Work
Sakurai also talked more about Smash Bros Ultimate online play.
Online Matchmaking will be much more advanced than previous games. Distance is the most important deciding factor. Players in the same area will automatically match together to avoid any lag or stuttering.
There will also be VIP Matches (Elite Smash). This is for competitive players who want to climb ranks and compete with advanced players. This gives the opportunity to separate casual and more competitive players.
Smash Ultimate News – Amiibo Release Dates
With a jam-packed roster, there are a lot of new Amiibo figures to come for Smash Bros Ultimate.
The game will launch with Ridley, Inkling, and Wolf figures, with more to follow in 2019. Amiibo from Smash Bros for Wii U will also be compatible with the game.
Sakurai spoke about when all Amiibo will be available, saying:
It takes a year for the first time from the prototype production, so it will take a while until the release, but please forgive me.
The interview also covers details on Ken and Incineroar’s appearance, along with more details about new modes. You can view a full translation at Siliconera.
