Newcastle United advanced in the FIFA QuaranTeam tournament thanks to a 1-0 win against Nantes on Tuesday evening.
The Toon Army moved into the last 32 of the FIFA competition thanks to a goal from Andy Carroll. It wasn’t without its struggles though, as Newcastle needed two attempts to get past their French opponents.
Nantes were resolute and held Newcastle to a 0-0 draw in the first game. There was little to separate the teams as well as FIFA QuaranTeam nerves seemed to get the better of both teams.
However, Newcastle’s pro FIFA player, @PlanetToast1, managed to ensure a safe passage through to the next round with a fine and well-disciplined performance in the second game.
Newcastle now joins the likes of Sheffield United from the Premier League in the next round of FIFA QuaranTeam.
The Blades won out 2-1 in their own tie against Exeter City earlier this week.
FIFA QuaranTeam continues to dominate the footballing world
With so little football for footy fans to feast on, it’s little wonder that FIFA QuaranTeam is attracting more attention than it might usually.
Especially, in a big city like Newcastle, where they love their football.

While FIFA might not be for everyone, a win is a win for Newcastle and it means they stay in the tournament.
Furthermore, having a big club like the Magpies remaining only keeps the interest higher in the QuaranTeam tournament for the rest of the footballing world.
Who’s next for Newcastle in FIFA QuaranTeam?
The draw hasn’t been made for Newcastle yet but there are some big names still left in the competition.
Manchester City are still in there, as are the likes of Norwich City and West Ham United.
From further afield, European giants such as Feyenoord and Australian side, Central Coast Mariners, remain in the tournament.
Elsewhere, Dutch team Utretch ran out 10-1 winners in their game against Scottish minnows, Hamilton, and could represent a big QuaranTeam threat for the Toon Army.
