Don’t expect much from LoL Patch 8.18. Being this close to Worlds means that the patches are much smaller and much less likely to impact the game in a major way. The biggest changes in patch 8.18 involve gameplay modes, specifically the departure of Nexus Blitz and the arrival of Odyssey: Extraction.

Patch 8.18 Highlights

With 8.18, Nexus Blitz is gone but Riot has promised to keep fans updated on it’s status. That includes stats on the alpha that should be released relatively soon (likely with patch 8.20). In its place we have Odyssey: Extraction. The new game mode is quite a bit of fun and features some pretty high skill jumps based on the difficulty settings. The rewards are pretty significant as well. So even if you only have time for a few matches, it’s still probably worth your while.

As far as champions go, Aatrox, Akali, Braum, Kai’Sa, Lucian, Renekton, Ryze, Sejuani, Trundle, Vayne and Viktor all received changes. Most of the changes are pretty small and geared towards pro play.

Akali’s R nerf should help with her bully status. Kai’Sa’s passive got a pretty sizeable nerf that’ll impact her late game dominance. Lucian and Renekton both got buffs that’ll make them even more dominant in solo queue and should shoot up their play rate in pro play. Ryze and Sejuani were both nerfed, despite the fact that they’re already pretty weak in solo queue. And Vayne and Viktor received buffs just big enough to make them more viable across the board.

There are two quality of life changes in patch 8.18 as well. Junglers will now be auto assigned smite in champ select and minimap icons scale better with 4K monitors now.

For skin fans, the six new Odyssey skins are pretty awesome. Kayn’s is particularly striking, and is accompanied by skins for Jinx, Yasuo, Sona, Malphite and Ziggs.
