Gen.G has triumphed in the 2018 LCK Regional Finals.

Gen.G’s 3-0 sweep of Kingzone DragonX in the final round of the LCK Regional Finals punched its ticket to the 2018 League of Legends World Championship. It will represent South Korea’s LCK as the 3rd seed.

Gen.G, formerly the roster of Samsung Galaxy, has qualified for the last three Worlds. All three times, they have qualified through the gauntlet.

Kings of LCK Regional Finals

Gen.G entered the gauntlet as the lowest seed. Slated to face off against Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s SK Telecom T1, Gen.G’s chances at Worlds Qualification looked slim. Even if it managed to defeat SKT, the wunderkinds of Griffin and veterans of Kingzone DragonX waited on the road ahead.

Gen.G narrowly edged out SK Telecom T1 in a 3-2 win. The two-time Worlds rematch seemed to power up the players on Gen.G, as they managed to edge out Griffin in another 3-2 win in the next round.

By the time Gen.G was set to face Kingzone DragonX, it was rolling at full steam. The Gen.G gauntlet buff was in full effect, and Kingzone DragonX’s Worlds hopes were swept out of the building.

In an interview with InvenGlobal, Support Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in colourfully described his team’s rapid climb in level of play throughout the 2018 LCK Regional Finals.

“My team is like a cartoon character that becomes stronger after time passes.”

Gen.G will join KT Rolster and Afreeca Freecs in representing South Korea in the 2018 League of Legends World Championship.
