How popular is Fortnite? Well, you might be shocked by how much they are crushing the competition.
You probably know this, but Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world right now. It has over 125 million players, $1bn in revenue from cosmetics since launch, and it is the king of Twitch.
According to data, Fortnite is the most watched game this year – totally crushing the likes of League of Legends, Counter-Strike, PUBG and Dota 2.
In May alone, Fortnite had an astonishing 600 million hours of view time on all platforms – as much as LoL, Dota 2, Hearthstone, and PUBG combined.
Fortnite Popularity on the Rise this Year
Also, according to this data, PUBG has only ever been more watched than Fortnite for two months – October and November 2017.
From January onwards, PUBG has suffered a decline, with it matching Dota 2’s figures for April of under 150 million hours.
Contrary to that, Fortnite has only had one month of decline, dropping from under 550 million to fewer than 500 million in April.
Fortnite’s May Viewership More than Other Games Combined
So, why has Fortnite been so successful?
May alone attracted 574 million hours watched, and a lot of that could be in part to the Marvel crossover. Teaming up with Marvel to add Thanos to the game was a huge success and helped promote both Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War.
It should also be mentioned that 7 of the top 10 most watched streamers per week are playing Fortnite at least 5 times a week. Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevin had a whopping 6 million hours viewed which was almost 5 million more than second place.
Now with Season 5 and the increase of tournaments with Friday Fortnite, Summer Skirmish, and the upcoming inaugural competitive season, could Fortnite continue to eclipse the competition?
It looks likely.
