All kinds of Smash Bros Ultimate DLC characters have been asked for by fans, and some, such as Joker, have even made it in. However, is there any chance of Half-Life protagonist Gordon Freeman in Smash Bros Ultimate? It doesn’t seem like a likely pick, but it turns out that creator Gabe Newell is in support of his character in the Smash Ultimate roster.
Half-Life Gordon Freeman in Smash Bros Ultimate?
Since the news came out that there would be 5 new Smash Bros Ultimate DLC characters, the rumor mill has been going crazy.
Fans have started campaigns for all kinds of characters. And polls show that some of the most popular Smash Bros Ultimate DLC characters fans want are Banjo Kazooie, Geno, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
However, one fan (@rskyoyomann) reached out to Valve boss Gabe Newell to see if he’d allow Gordon Freeman in Smash Bros. Turns out Gaben is totally in support of it.
Gordon Freeman is the main protagonist of the Half-Life series. Half-Life is known as one of the most influential FPS games and the game that launched Valve.
Although he hasn’t made an appearance in a game since 2007 (much to the chagrin of fans), he’s an iconic video game character that wouldn’t be completely out of place in the Smash Bros roster.
What are the chances of a Valve character in Smash Ultimate?
Despite the relative popularity of Half-Life with fans, it doesn’t seem like the most likely pick for Smash Bros Ultimate.
Current leaks revolve around Dragon Quest Erdrick in Smash Bros Ultimate. Edelgard from Fire Emblem: Three Houses is another likely character for the DLC roster.
Even as far as FPS characters go, the DOOM Marine seems like a much more likely inclusion than Gordon Freeman.
However, it’s reassuring to know that Valve would be willing to cooperate with Nintendo. While we may not see a Valve character in the upcoming DLC packs, it’s still a remote possibility for the future.
