Fortnite Compact SMG review – Why did Epic put this in the game?

Seriously, the Fortnite Compact SMG is broken and needs nerfing.

The Compact SMG has been in Fortnite for less than 24 hours and, honestly, it is stupidly good.

Like with all new items added to Fortnite, I just had to jump in to try out using it; as well as being on the receiving end of it. Usually, I look to play ten games to get a well-rounded and balanced view of the new item, but can you guess how many games I managed in the compact SMG meta?

Four. I could only manage four games before giving up and going on Realm Royale to relax for a bit.

So, why did I only last four games? Well, It was a combination of being continuously destroyed by the Compact SMG and the new building nerfs (which we’ll get on to in another article).

There are no downsides to the weapon. It is insanely accurate. It has no recoil at all. It does serious damage. It fires faster than all but one gun. It does more DPS than any other weapon.

In my expert opinion, it is just way too good. You could run two of them, shred through a building, switch weapon, and then tear through the player.

So, what could Epic do to nerf it?

The obvious thing to change would be to add a pretty significant damage drop off at range.

They could also just make light ammo a bit harder to come by. Recently, there were buffs to the amount of ammo that dropped for SMGs and silenced pistols; this has come to bite Epic in the backside now. With the Compact SMG holding 50 rounds and there being so much light ammo available, it is a little worrying how they didn’t figure this out.

Why did they put it into the game?

Well, they seem to be under the impression that there isn’t only one meta. The majority of players are using SMGs rather than Assault Rifles, and yet Epic have not done anything to change the damage of AR’s.

With the Playground being added, we can only hope that Epic will introduce new features to the Playground first, and then let us figure out if they are actually broken or not.
