What are the highest rated games of all time?
The other day, we looked at some of the lowest rated video games of all time according to Metacritic. And guess what? Today we’re looking at some of the highest rated games of all time!
Can you imagine what some of the best are? Surely Earthbound will be on there and Half-Life 2, right? Well, incredibly neither are on this list and instead are some rather surprising titles.
OH! and before we start, we’re not including the same game just on two different platforms, we’ll just pick the highest one.
With that being said, here are the top five rated games of all time according to Metacritic:
5. Super Mario Galaxy 97/100
Certainly one of the best Mario games of all time and definitely a title that convinced me to finally buy a Wii. Exploring strange planets and defying gravity as well as some crazy new moves was great fun. While it had all these new fancy additions, it also kept the hallmark of a great Mario game.
However, rating it a whopping 97% seems a little overkill, right?
4. SoulCalibur 98/100
Honestly? I’ve never actually played a SoulCalibur game, but I do remember the sheer amount of hype that was around this game when it was released for the Dreamcast back in 1999.
It has a whopping 98 score on Metacritic and is seemingly beloved by just about everyone who has played it.
Apologies for me not knowing much about this one, but I was way too poor to afford a Dreamcast back then.
3. GTA IV 98/100
Niko! It’s your cousin, let’s go bowling! That really was a personal highlight of GTA IV for me. A rating of 98 seems fair in all honesty, thanks to a fantastic storyline and hundreds of hours of fun.
One of the best ways to look at this is that like most Grand Theft Auto games, it isn’t a perfect game, but it is a fantastic title and one you absolutely must play.
2. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 98/100
Ah, the game that helped me learn all the lyrics to Bring the Noize by Public Enemy. Oh, and most importantly spend those boring summer holidays by playing this absolute gem.
While some of the more recent Tony Hawk franchise entries have been fairly terrible, Pro Skater 2 still holds up today. If you like skating or just got caught up in the skateboarding revival in the early 2000s, this is a must play.
Geoff Rowley was obviously the best character because he was bloody English and that was enough to make it one of the highest rated games ever.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 99/100
A game rated 99 and a game that is absolutely deserving of such a rating. Most Zelda games are fantastic. However, this is just above and beyond all the others and will make you a bit misty-eyed.
What else is there to say about Ocarina of Time?! Easily deserving of being one of the highest rated games of all time… I need to play through it again soon!
