Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launched last week and, according to figures from Activision, it’s already been a huge success. In addition to $500 million in launch sales, Black Ops 4 also sets record numbers for the franchise in players, hours played, and even hours watched on Twitch!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Makes $500m at Launch

Black Ops 4 sold over $500 million in the first three days of its release. Activision also report the most overall players, average hours played per player, and total hours played in Call of Duty franchise history.

The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via With digital and physical sales on consoles, the game is accessible in a variety of ways.

With Competitive multiplayer complete with 10 different ‘specialist’ characters, Zombies mode, and a new Battle Royale mode, it seems CoD is piquing more people’s interest than ever before.

Call of Duty Battle Royale Mode: Blackout

Black Ops 4 makes some major changes to the series. The game does away with the classic Campaign Mode in favor of Solo Missions. The new Battle Royale mode ‘Blackout’ also gives a fresh spin on the Battle Royale game craze.

Blackout was put through a multitude of beta tests, with Treyarch aiming to make the game more user-friendly. This has led to changes such as an easier looting system to make this one of the best player experiences for Battle Royale games.

The most recent changes include 100-player duos and 88-player quad games. Treyarch seems dedicated to making regular changes to make the game better for players.

More Twitch Hours for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

The game has also brought in many views on Twitch. Rob Kostich, EVP/GM of Call of Duty stated in a press release:

Black Ops 4 is off to a blockbuster start. Our player counts and hours played are up year over year, our viewership on Twitch has set new standards and is showing just how fun Blackout is to play and to watch.

According to, Black Ops 4 was in the top 10 games watched on Twitch for September 2018. With 19.2 million viewers, it ranks number 9, just before hugely popular games like Hearthstone and Overwatch. What’s more, this is pre-release, meaning numbers could be even more impressive for October.
