This is how much Nintendo spends on advertising… it is fairly crazy.

The Sony and Nintendo rivalry has continued through this summer; the latter heavily increasing advertising. Sony has had a bumper summer, while releases on Nintendo are slowing down a little; until later this year, with Smash Bros Ultimate and Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee.

The release of the PlayStation 4 exclusive has been a huge success, with it already becoming the best selling PS4 game since COD WII. In fact, Spider-Man is the fastest selling game in the UK this year according to gamesindustry.biz.

While Sony is dominating at the moment in sales, Nintendo is pushing their campaigns before the launch of their two biggest releases this year. According to VentureBeat, Nintendo splashed a whopping $6.2m in August, up from $5.8m spent in July. This went well past Sony’s advertising for Spider-Man.

In fact, Nintendo acquited for as much as 24% of total gaming advertising spending. Sony, on the other hand, was at just 15%. According to data from ispot.tv, total expenditures for game advertising was up to £24.9m in August, almost £7m more than in July.

It looks like Nintendo will continue their advertising push, especially with Smash Bros Ultimate and Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee’s releases rivalling the likes of Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption.
