Who doesn’t want a Battle For Middle Earth remake?!

The Lord of the Rings spawned quite a few good games, with the Two Towers probably being the best of the bunch. However, there was also the Battle for Middle Earth game which was a lot of fun if you liked strategy titles.

You got to take control of your own side, with four factions on two sides playable. The obvious choice was to get “meat back on the menu” as the Uruk-Hai…

Anyway, this game was released all the way back in 2004 on Windows PC and had its online servers shut down in 2010. It looked like the end for fans of the game.

Battle For Middle Earth Remake

However, it could be coming back thanks to a group of devoted fans who are hoping to bring us Battle For Middle Earth: Reforged!

A stunning reveal trailer was published to show all their hard work so far; rebuilding The Battle For Middle Earth game in the Unreal 4 engine. This is nothing short of incredible, and if you can, watch the trailer in 4K; it will take your breath away.

In the FAQ sections of the BFME: Reforge website, the developers worry about copyright was revealed. They are hoping Warner Bros. can see the potential:

Yes, we worry a bit, when it comes to Warner B. and their possible reaction, however, take many examples of non-commercial projects of Total War, Skyrim or other engines. We still have an advantage: Unreal Engine 4 is free for non-commercial projects so that anybody could play the game for free!”

But what is the potential?

The reveal video already getting more than 100,000 views, and the Lord of The Rings community is a vast one; so we should see plenty of excitement for this online game.

Sadly, there is no confirmed release date yet. Our blood-lust will just have to wait for now until we get that Battle For Middle Earth remake.
