There loads of esports games, but are there and really odd esports games? Yes, yes there are.
Currently, esports is rather sexy, especially to games like Counter: Strike, Overwatch and League of Legends.
In fact, when you think of esports you probably only think of those titles plus Dota 2, StarCraft II and a few others.
However, there was a time when esports was less sexy and a bit more neckbeardy. So much so, that some really quite bizarre games where actually picked to be played competitively.
So forget about some of the best RTS’s, FPS’s and MOBA’s, because we’re digging the bottom of the weird barrel for really odd esports games.
1. Pangya/Super Swing Golf
Remember this online multiplayer golf game? Of course, you do! Actually, this was pretty decent, but as an esport? Yeah, it’s kind of weird to watch really.
What says esport better than a very weeby golf game that actually had a decent player base until just last year.
Still, despite me actually playing quite a bit of this on the Wii, it is still rather odd that is was included as part of the World Cyber Games back in 2006.
2. The WarZ
Oh, I’m sorry, Infestation: Survivor Stories.
It is truly incredible that a game this terrible actually did have a competitive scene, albeit one that sucked.
I mean it wasn’t quite DreamHack levels, but there were tournaments, well seasons that teams like FARO and UNIT took part in.
Honestly, one of the worst games to be released this decade, having a competitive ‘scene’ is just insanity.
You think I’m joking, but I’m DEAD FREAKING SERIOUS. A game so legendary but for all the wrong reasons, mainly due to how horrible it is.
Known for having terrible controls, pretty awful graphics and a plot that was about as compelling as an Uwe Boll film.
All of that being said, the game apparently has regular tournaments. I mean, they’re nowhere near being massive, but the simple fact that it can be considered an esport is impressive but really weird.
As really odd esports games go, this one is absolutely up there.
