The latest Smash Direct gave us Incineroar and Ken as the final Smash Bros Ultimate characters for launch, although more will come via DLC. It also showed us who some of the deconfirmed Smash Bros Ultimate Characters are. Unfortunately, some fan favorites have been relegated to Assist Trophies and Mii Skins.

It’s not completely impossible that some of these characters could be turned into roster fighters later on. However, as of right now, it seems Nintendo has no plans to use these characters for the upcoming DLC packs. Here are the deconfirmed Smash Bros Ultimate Characters from the November Smash Bros Direct.

Skull Kid

With The Moon from Majora’s Mask already in the Assist Trophy lineup, many fans thought Skull Kid would finally make the roster. However, many fans will be disappointed to see Skull Kid has returned purely as an Assist Trophy. He wasn’t shown on the Direct broadcast, but he does show up on the official website.

Isaac

Despite high demand from fans, Isaac makes an appearance only as an Assist Trophy. Isaac’s Assist Trophy looks great, but many fans will be let down that they can’t use him as a fighter.

Shadow

Shadow the Hedgehog seemed like a shoo-in for a Sonic Echo Fighter. However, the popular villain will also be an Assist Trophy in the launch version of Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Rex and Pyra

Rex Mii Fighter Skin from Smash Bros Ultimate Direct

The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 protagonist will feature as DLC. However, it will only be as a Mii Fighter Skin. In the Smash Bros Direct, Sakurai said:

We decided which fighters to include when we started planning, so we couldn’t add fighters from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which was announced after planning had started.

This means Rex and Pyra are both likely deconfirmed Smash Bros Ultimate characters. Other Mii Skins include Chibi Robo, Ribbon Girl (ARMs), and Splatoon 2 characters.

Black Knight

He was far from the most requested character, but Fire Emblem’s Black Knight did have a fair amount of fan demand. This one might be for the better. With 7 Fire Emblem fighters in the Smash Bros Ultimate roster, we have plenty of representation from the series already.

Spring Man

Given the popularity of Switch fighting esports game ARMs, Spring Man seemed like a good possibility for a DLC character. However, he also makes his Smash Bros debut as an Assist Trophy for now.
