Overwatch league beats LOL?
The inaugural season of the Overwatch League has been massively popular throughout January.
In fact, in January, the OL was so popular that it was actually the second most watched competition according to ESC Watch.
Though, the competitions just beat the NA Spring Lol LCS by under 30,000 viewers, it does show that Overwatch does have a huge market, especially in the west.
The peak number of concurrent viewers was 436,000 and that isn’t taking in to account the number of viewers from China – where eSports are obviously hugely popular.
The most watched match involved Dallas Fuel taking on Seoul Dynasty in a rather epic 2-1 win for Seoul.
Interesting, neither team is exactly playing to the best of their ability overall in the league, with Seoul currently third with six wins and two losses.
As for Dallas, they’ve only managed to secure two wins and a suffered a whopping seven losses, which included a shocking 4-0 thumping by Philadelphia Fusion.
With the OL doing so well in January and incredibly beating two League of Legends competitions in the process, we could see Overwatch start to gain even more popularity.
Interestingly, the game was not so popular with Russian fans, with it failing to make it in the top five – instead Dota2 moved in.
In terms of the most popular tournaments streamed on Twitch, OL game in second, with the most popular match being the 4-0 thumping by Los Angeles Valiant over rivals San Francisco Shock.
