Dota 2’s The International 2018 prize pool is an absolute monster worst as much as $24 Million!

Money talks, or at least that’s what Shane McMahon’s theme tune has taught me. As too has esports, which has lots of money involved from the bottom – right up to the pinnacle – of tournaments.

While the likes of League of Legends, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and even now Fortnite give away hundreds of thousands (if not millions), one game and tournament is above the rest. The Dota 2 International gives out more money than Mr Burns has lying around in spare change. In the past, the competition has had an overall prize pool of $20m back in 2016 and just (JUST) $10m in 2014.

International 2018 biggest prize in esports

Incredibly though, the 2018 event became the highest paying esports tournament, with a prize pool of more than $24m. In fact, finishing first will pick up more than the overall prize pool from 2014, with $10,915,907 on the line for the winners. Teams finishing in 18th position will pick up $62,022 which is the overall prize pool for some events for smaller games.

Last year’s International saw Team Liquid take home the prize, and they stand a good chance again this year. Their first match in the main event is against OpTic Gaming.

The runners-up from last year, Newbee, incredibly only made it to the losers bracket, where they will face Winstrike Team and the winners of VGJ. Thunder and Vici Gaming.
