The Nintendo Switch has become a popular home for indie games. Now, one of the biggest games will make its way to the Nintendo console. Studio MDHR recently released a trailer to announce that Cuphead will come to the Nintendo Switch on April 18th, 2019. But that’s not all- it turns out that Cuphead co-creator would love to see Cuphead in Smash Bros Ultimate. Is it possible?
Cuphead in Smash Bros Ultimate DLC
Speculation around the characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate has been rife ever since the game’s announcement. While we got over 70 fighters in the launch roster, fans still look forward to more in the form of DLC packs.
Piranha Plant was the first Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC character. Joker is soon to follow in the next couple of months. Recent Smash Bros Ultimate DLC leaks suggest we could get Erdrick, Edelgard, and even the DOOM Marine next. But is there room for Cuphead?
To celebrate the upcoming release of Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch, GameInformer spoke to Cuphead co-creator Jared Moldenhauer. It turns out that Moldenhauer is a huge Smash Ultimate fan and would love to see the titular character in the roster.
“I’ve dreamed of Smash Bros,” said Moldenhauer. “[Cuphead and Mugman] belong in there. So basically if fans want it, I couldn’t see how Nintendo wouldn’t want the fans to get what they wanted. I think they would because they support their fans a lot.
In the GameInformer interview, Moldenhauer continues to say that he’d be happy to sign over the rights if Nintendo wanted it.
What are the chances of Cuphead in Smash Bros Ultimate?
As far as the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC roster goes, Cuphead is unlikely to appear anytime soon. Nintendo has already decided the first five challengers to appear in the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC packs, and it seems unlikely Cuphead has been considered.
However, he could still make an appearance in the future. A recent leak suggests Super Smash Bros Ultimate could have more than 6 DLC characters.
A data-miner found information to suggest we could get as many as 15 more DLC characters. If that does turn out to be the case, there’s plenty of room for Cuphead.

Of course, he could also appear in another form. Fellow indie character Shovel Knight is now an Assist Trophy in Smash Bros Ultimate. Cuphead could be an Assist Trophy or a Spirit. Mugman could also join him.
Whether he’ll make an appearance is yet to be seen. With creators more than willing to cooperate, it’s always a possibility Cuphead could appear in some form.
