Cloud9 will literally be on cloud nine after becoming the first ever North American team to be crowned Counter-Striker:Global Offensive Valve Major champions.

In a truly epic tug of war with FaZe Clan during the grand finals of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston, last night, the underdogs Cloud9 with the backing of a huge patriotic home crowd, did the unthinkable.

And despite being the underdogs, Cloud9 actually took a commanding 8-1 lead on Mirage mainly thanks to yler “Skadoodle” Latham and Timothy “autimatic” Ta totally dominating their European counterparts.

However, FaZe were quite literally unfazed and pushed an epic comeback to head into the second map on tournament point and that would be on their map pick.

Once again Cloud9 countered and managed to neutralise Nikola “NiKo” Kovac to the point where he was completely ineffective.

The North American’s took another whopping 8-0 lead and managed to take Overpass 16-10 leaving us with an epic final map to decide the new champions.

Another tug of war saw Cloud9 take the lead before FaZe pulled off some epic comebacks, pushing themselves to match point and leaving the home crowd and team looking totally dejected.

Incredibly though, after two failed forcebuys, Jake “Stewie2k” Yip pulled off one of the most important plays ever with an amazing 3-man clutch which kickstarted not only the crowd but his team-mates too.

Not to be outdone but their American cousins, FaZe’s Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovác came up with his very own amazing 2 v 1 clutch to just about keep them in the tournament in overtime.

Now in the second-half of OT, Cloud9 pushed further towards victory, leaving FaZe with little to spend and lots of work to do. Once again Skadoodle and Stewie2k went huge for their team.

FaZe continued to put up a fight, but were now just only delaying the inevitable, as Cloud9 finally secured championship point thanks to a brilliant A site defend.

With advantage now well and truly in their favour, the home side cleared through FaZe leaving just GuardiaN in a 2v1 clutch which was finished off by Skadoodle to see Cloud9 become the first North American team to win a Valve Major and arguably beating the best CS:GO teams around.

As well as the trophy, Cloud9 picked up a whopping $500,000 while FaZe’s 2nd place saw them secure $150,000.
