The Overwatch League or OWL is Blizzard’s first competitive league based around their highly popular team-based first-person shooter.

Despite featuring a majority of North American teams, the league also features squads from the UK, South Korea and China, with the teams working as a franchise – similar to US traditional sporting leagues.

Currently, there are 12 teams in the league and most recently London Spitfire picked up the Stage 1 championship after beating favourites New York Excelsior and Houston Outlaws along the way.

With franchise fees costing between $20million and $60 (by Season 2) and games pulling in hundreds of thousands of viewers on Twitch, the Overwatch League really is huge business in esports right now.
