If there is one game that I’ve spent more time on over the past decade, it would be Football Manager.

In fact, I managed to put almost 2,000 hours into FM2012, taking Gateshead from the Conference to Champions League glory in just eight years.

Anyway, Football Manager isn’t the first game you think of when it comes to esports, but that might just be about to change – which is great news.

There have been tournaments in the past, but none have really matched the might of what is coming up at Gaming Festival in late March and April.

Organised by the FM World esports Championship in association with Bidstock and Insomnia, there will be 64 players coming together to battle it out for a whopping £25,000 prize.

The huge winning prize might just be one of the best around for any Football Manager competition – but if the money wasn’t enough, there is the fact that you can also win the chance to become a real football manager!

Become an actual manager

Yep, the life-long dream for basically anyone who plays FM and you’ll get the chance to take charge of the likes of Javier Zanetti and Marco Materazzi as Norwich City and Inter Milan legends take battle it out later this year.

With free entry and another 12 days to sign up for the World Championships, why not see if your crazy tactics or dodgy half-time team-talks are as good as you think they are.

eSports beginning to create new wave of white-collar jobs

One downside is, unlike many big esport tournaments, you will need to bring your own PC – which means if like me and you’re travelling from miles away, it might be a bit of an effort.

However, showing that you’re the best in the world at Football Manager is absolutely worth it, right?

Hopefully, we’ll see you at Insomnia but be warned and get ready for my Libero and Mezzala because we’ll show no mercy!
