Australia are set to develop their very first venue solely dedicated to eSports.

News of this came about after Aussie cinema company Hoyts and eSports company Gfinity announced a partnership which will see them develop various eSports venues all around the country.

It remains to be seen whether most of the venues will simply be existing Hoyts cinemas re-branded, or mainly entirely new developments.

Nevertheless, the addition of dedicated eSports venues will transfer for the current eSports scene in Australia, with previous events having generally been held at make-shift venues, taking away form the entire tournament experience.

Three of the oldest professional gamers currently active

The country recently announced the launch of a new Australia Gfinity Elite Series which will see six teams from various cities around the nation compete across CS:GO, Street Fighter V and Rocket League.

The first of the series events is due to take place in Hoyts and Gfinity’s first new venue, which will be completed around April 2018. The prize pool is believed to stand around $450,000 making it a significantly large competition.

The venue is currently being developed in Sydney’s Moore Park Entertainment Quarter and is set to be as good a venue as they come.

It a country where traditional sports is so heavily ingrained in popular culture, it appears eSports is feeding off this and is developing nicely on a nation wide scale.
